Joel Osteen

Joel Osteen

Many people affirm that Joel Osteen teaches the prosperity gospel. Whether you’re one of those people or not, I would highly encourage you to look into him and actually tell me what he preaches that is prosperity gospel. It’s one thing to know someone teaches prosperity gospel and it’s another thing to know the specifics of what someone teaches and why it does not align with the true gospel.

Read this for me real quick:

The Bible

We believe the entire Bible is inspired by God, without error and the authority on which we base our faith, conduct and doctrine.

The Trinity

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to this earth as Savior of the world.

We believe Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for our sins. We believe that salvation is found by placing our faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross. We believe Jesus rose from the dead and is coming again.

Water Baptism

We believe water baptism is a symbol of the cleansing power of the blood of Christ and a testimony to our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe in the regular taking of Communion as an act of remembering what the Lord Jesus did for us on the cross.

Growing Relationship

We believe every believer should be in a growing relationship with Jesus by obeying God’s Word, yielding to the Holy Spirit and by being conformed to the image of Christ.

See anything terribly unbiblical with it? It doesn’t dig very deep, but there’s nothing that jumps out at me to scream, “this is heresy.” The above is the current (as far as I know) statement of faith of Lakewood Community Church. The point is, if you’re not careful and diligent about actually looking into who you listen to, you might glance over their teaching just as you did the statement of faith and say, “oh that looks good” without giving other things he’s had to say a second thought. Just in case that’s where you’re at, I’ve compiled some videos so that you can see some of the things that are blatantly against scripture…
